Apple recently released it’s latest product, the Apple Watch, after using mine for a while I’ve compiled a list of useful tips and tricks for common issues you may have with your watch, hopefully if you have just got a new watch you will find this post useful, please share if you do. I plan on writing a separate post about using the Apple Watch to track your Crossfit workouts in a little bit. I would recommend quickly skimming this Apple Watch human interface guideline document as well to familiarize yourself with the common terminology used by Apple and this post.
We are back onto the paleo challenge (more to do a yearly clean up) and will be trying to behave for the next 30 days. There is something strange about being restricted, when you know things are off limits, there is a certain level of attractiveness to the food that one had been swore off! I normally do not care too much about chocolates, but recently I have been dying for chocolates. Of course, since they are off limits, I wondered up and down the aisle to find something tasty in Whole Foods to meet the craving.
Everytime I discover a new snack that is natural, I feel a million bucks!
This weekend was going through the supermarket and found this little gem. Upon reading the ingredients, I was quite hopeful since the ingredients sound really natural.
Miracle fruit is a plant that has a berry which when eaten causes sour foods to taste sweet, it’s the strangest sensation, basically you can put some lemon in your mouth and instead of tasting really sour it is one of the sweetest tastes you will have experienced.
You can buy these taste bud altering berries in tablet format. You basically just suck on one of the tablets for a few minutes until it completely dissolves, get an array of different food and try each one to see how the taste has changed.
Sunday is the day that I like to do weights. This is especially since Mondays are generally rest day for me.
I had several hero WODs that I had selected to do one after the other. Holleyman being one of them and Ralph hero wod was another one. What attracts me most about this WOD are the rope climbs.
Ralph Hero WOD
Four rounds of:
250 pound Deadlift, 8 reps (Ladies – 165 pound)
15 foot Rope climb, 3 ascents
Run 600 meters
Curry Vegetable Quinoa is a dish that we rotate frequently into the meal plans. It is filling (from the coconut milk), healthy (from all the vegetables) and also easy to pair with something else if you would like to have it as a main dish. We had concoct this dish a year or so ago when we first tried Quinoa. We like the taste of the supergrain and had since then made it a staple. We are still in dilemma if this is considered paleo or not. However, we figured that it is definitely clean and natural so had taken things with a grain of salt 🙂
I have to say that it is rare that something meets a specific good diet and is tasty. This weekend on the grocery trip, I happen to come by a tower of almond milk in Whole foods and beside it are many packets of Primal Island cereals. What is interesting is how mainstream “PALEO” is becoming. The marketing for this packet of cereal is towards paleo diets! Wow!!!! How great is this?
Not sure if summer is here yet. Seattle can get really dreary, dark and gloomy and we simply cannot find enough good weather days during the 9 months of fall, winter and spring. These couple of days, the weather is lightening up and yet it is still lovely and cold day. Let’s just say these days are my favorite but I definitely always want hot food since I really get cold easily.
One of the dish that I had been experimenting is this Paleo chili stew. Made from lean beef and cooked without beans. It is really quite tasty and satisfying, except that I am still trying to find the best cut of meat. I think the stew beef may not be the best cut. I think chuck roast cut up into chunks will really be my recommendation. 🙂 Try it and let me know what you think.
I grew up in Singapore and one of the things that I always crave is a big bowl of noodles. Specifically egg noodles, these are the yellow type of noodles that you can order in Chinese restaurant. I love them in a stir fry with vegetables especially bean sprouts where they are al dente.
Going to paleo makes me crave noodles even more and this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone – Zucchini noodles!
It’s always nice to be able to have a bowl of hot soup anytime of the day and also have all the ingredients on hand. Even nicer is how warm and toasty it makes your belly feel :). Today is one of those days on a cold day and I just did not want to cook. Granted, I did plan for dinner to be a roast chicken from the grocery store, but I really did not feel like making the drive through. So my better half just volunteered 🙂 I know, I am lucky.
